Tray-tober Day 4: Traydio

Not every app in Tray-tober will be brand new. The community response to Traydio (formerly Trdo) inspired me to look deeper into the world of tray apps. I am thrilled to say the reviews and comments on social media reinforce that users ‘get it’ when it comes to what a tray app is supposed to be.

  1. There when you need it, just a click away.
  2. Gone when you’re done with it

Many apps start with the assumption the app will be a primary, traditional windowed app. While this is true of apps where I spend most of my time, it is not true of the apps that are doing small jobs throughout the day. Listening to music is one of the most common background jobs.

Traydio was built with the intent of making it easy to find, save, play, and engage with internet radio in a small tray app. The over 200 reviews on the Microsoft Store have confirmed the app is achieving its goal.

Originally built last October, Traydio 2.0 has brought a ton of new features!

  • LibVLC backed engine
  • New Windowing model
  • Better metadata decoding
  • Subtle radio static effect
  • Customizable mouse options
  • and so much more!

Unlike many other Tray-tober projects, Traydio is available on the Microsoft Store in addition to MSIX packages on GitHub.
