I’ve been a self taught windows apps developer since 2016, so I have consumed my fair share of tutorials and developer content. While the best experience is building apps, I have found much of the online content splits into two camps: narrow examples and deep long form content.
Both kinds of content is valuable for different purposes however I am always looking for real world intermediate level content in the Windows app world. This means the examples are of real world apps and the content doesn’t have lengthy prerequisites.
So I did my part and partnered with Matt Lacey to record some “drop in” videos. The objective here is to make accessible content which can be applied to real world apps. We worked on the XAML of Simple QR Code maker which is an app that has been published in the Microsoft Store for over a year.

The goals of these videos were as such:
- Changing code in a real world app
- Stand alone videos without lengthy background
- Showcase complex refactoring
- Discuss thought processes behind the choices
- Source code available! https://github.com/TheJoeFin/Simple-QR-Code-Maker
Give the videos a watch and let me know what you think!
